Irani President to Visit Pakistan on Saturday

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian will reach Islamabad on a two-day official visit to Pakistan on Saturday, 2 August.

Political Adviser to the Iranian President Mehdi Sanai announced the visit plan on his x account

The Iranian delegation, which includes senior political and economic officials, is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday evening. President Pezeshkian will hold formal talks with Pakistani leaders, meet cultural figures, and attend business forums in the capital.

Pakistani officials say the visit is intended to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, and security fields. Trade expansion and border management are high on the agenda, with both countries aiming to increase bilateral trade beyond the current $3 billion mark. Officials are also expected to discuss joint energy projects and cross-border economic zones.

This is the second high-level Iranian visit in just over a year. President Ebrahim Raisi had travelled to Pakistan in April 2024, shortly before his death in a helicopter crash. During that visit, Raisi toured Lahore and Karachi and inaugurated several joint initiatives. His death led to a temporary pause in engagements, but both sides resumed dialogue in the months that followed.

Ties between Iran and Pakistan were strained earlier this year after cross-border missile strikes in January led to a brief military standoff. Both countries later moved quickly to contain the crisis through diplomatic channels. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has since emphasised Islamabad’s preference for regional dialogue and non-intervention, including on issues linked to Iran’s internal security.

The visit will also be closely watched by regional observers as Iran continues to navigate a changing political landscape after the death of President Raisi. Pakistan, facing economic and security challenges of its own, sees stable ties with Tehran as critical to its regional strategy.
