ISLAMABAD 15 Sept 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will visit Qatar on Monday to participate in the emergency Arab-Islamic summit being held in Doha.
The Summit, co-sponsored
by Pakistan, has been convened in the wake of Israel’s airstrikes on Doha and
the escalating developments in Palestine following Israeli attempts to occupy
Gaza, expand settlement activities in the occupied West Bank and forcibly
displace the Palestinians.
Heads of states and governments
and senior officials from the OIC member countries are expected to participate
in the meeting.
Pakistan accords high
importance to its relations with State of Qatar and has strongly condemned
Israeli aggression against Qatar and other regional states.
In a gesture of
solidarity and regional unity, the Prime Minister visited Doha on the 11th of
this month and met with Qatari leadership to express Pakistan’s unwavering
support for the security and sovereignty of Qatar and its commitment to peace
and stability in the Middle East.
There are strong
expectations that the summit will produce a unified and forceful response to
the Israeli attacks. Leaders will likely address the need for collective
actions against such aggressions.
Political Declaration: The summit is expected to issue a political
declaration outlining principles for security and cooperation among member
states. This declaration may also detail collective positions regarding the
conflict and calls for solidarity.
Draft Statement Review: The agenda will include the review of a draft
statement concerning the Israeli attack on September 9, which targeted
residential areas in Doha. This statement will likely reflect the summit's
collective stance against these actions.
Discussion on
Collective Actions: Leaders will
discuss various strategies to create leverage on the U.S. and demand direct
intervention to end hostilities in Gaza. Sustained coordination across
political, diplomatic, and economic fields will be emphasized to enhance
Arab-Islamic unity.
Notable leaders expected
to attend include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iraqi Prime Minister
Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and other significant figures from the region.
The summit is a critical
opportunity for Arab and Islamic leaders to come together in response to recent
events and to solidify their collective stance against perceived threats to
their sovereignty and regional stability. The outcomes will likely set the tone
for future diplomatic and political actions concerning the ongoing conflict in
the region.
